Welcome to the iford manor estate

Welcome to Iford - home to the Cartwright-Hignett family, with a rich history dating back to the Domesday Book.

Since 1965 we have worked as a family to restore, conserve and enhance this stunning valley, improving biodiversity and allowing others to enjoy its rich cultural heritage.

We are delighted to share the beauty and tranquillity of Iford with you.

Kindly keep to the footpaths and dogs on leads in the fields to help protect the wider biodiversity in the valley.

With over 3 miles of footpaths running through the estate, there is something to enjoy at Iford all year round, even when our famous gardens are closed.

Enjoy homemade food from our cafe and restaurant all made from scratch in our kitchen with only the finest ingredients from local, responsible suppliers, including our own vegetable garden. Headed up by award-winning Head Chef Matthew Briddon it is the perfect place to stop for lunch or afternoon tea during your garden visit, or a walk through the Estate. Our popular Friday evening Supper Clubs book up quickly so don’t miss out and book a table for you and your friends now! Or enjoy one of our events running during the winter months.

Our Grade 1 listed gardens open from April - September. Often described as ‘soul food’ and ‘like stepping into another world’ we hope to provide both tranquillity and inspiration to visitors. Capacity is limited, so please book your ticket in advance to guarantee entry. For a deeper understanding of the garden, don’t miss our special evening champagne tours with William Cartwright-Hignett, or the behind the scenes tours with Head Gardener Steve Lannin.

Stay in our newly renovated Rowley Cottage (self-catering) with special access to our main gardens all year round. Sleeping 6 with 3 bedrooms, all en-suite, enjoy waking up to birdsong in the Iford Valley with its own private, south-facing cottage garden.

The next Iford Jazz Festival will take place from 30th June - 2nd July 2023, curated by Claire Martin OBE. All events will take place within the Grade 1 listed gardens.

Since 1910, visitors to Iford Manor Gardens have received a warm welcome, a tradition that we are proud to continue. Used as a key location in “The Secret Garden starring Colin Firth and Julie Walters (2020), and The Winter King (ITVX, MGM 2023) we hope that you enjoy visiting and exploring our very real secret garden on the Wiltshire/ Somerset border. We look forward to welcoming you to Iford very soon.

Please note that children under 10 are not permitted in the garden.

Subscribe to our monthly newsletter below to stay informed of the various events and activities we have that take place throughout the year, or follow us on Instagram and Facebook. Planning for our Jazz Festival, curated by Claire Martin OBE is already underway, as is our annual Nature Day in association with Butterfly Conservation and a new programme of tours, workshops and talks.
